Who am I and What is Hypnobirthing?

I am Amy, the creator of The Birthing Bubble. I am fully qualified through the Royal College of Midwives accredited Calm Births Hypnobirthing Teacher Training. I have always been passionate about empowering women and this is something that has inspired me to help women to achieve calm, empowered births.

What is hypnobirthing, I have to be honest, when I first heard of hypnobirthing the name put me off a little. I'd consider myself a fairly scientifically minded individual, believing in things I can see and feel. Things that can be tested. Hypnobirthing I imagined would be nothing like this. How wrong I was!

As I begun to learn more about hypnobirthing and working towards my son’s birth, I was surprised that, actually everything I was reading and learning appealed to this side of my brain.

I was also scared, coming in at a scratch under 5ft and having a husband who was a whopper of a baby, left me with images of labour being fairly horrendous, needing tonnes of emergency interventions and me just having birth ‘done’ to me rather than playing an active part. I actually described how I was terrified my baby would get stuck 'wearing me like a jumpsuit' on a number of occasions. So, when I found out about hypnobirthing, what did I have to lose?

Labour is portrayed in the media by sweaty women, with their legs up in stirrups, useless birth partners, lots of swearing shouting and general loss of control. Hypnobirthing reframes the image to a more accurate version of birth. Because the truth is, birth is so beautiful and empowering and doesn’t look anything like how the media portray it. Hypnobirthing encourages you to get the knowledge you need to allow you to make informed decisions. Decisions you can be confident are right for you, your birth partner and your baby. You will feel calm in the knowledge that you have control over how your birth pans out, as well as learning some pretty amazing techniques that you will be able to use in birth and beyond.
